Who is Karl Lagerfeld?

Karl Lagerfeld is a star of haute couture. Originally from Germany, he moved to France in 1952 after seeing his first Christian Dior fashion show in Hamburg. He had a passion for drawing and began earning a living as a fashion illustrator in 1954. It was Balmain who noticed him and recruited him as an assistant from 1955 to 1962. It was then that his professional career began.

What's the series about?

A biographical series about the famous German couturier and fashion designer was released on Friday, June 7, 2024. It was inspired by the adaptation of the biography "Kaiser Karl" by journalist Raphaëlle Bacqué, who is also the co-writer. It is directed by Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo.

The series begins in 1972, in the early days of Karl Lagerfeld's creations and ideas. His ambition: to be the world's most adored French couturier. It traces Karl's rise to haute couture, his competition with Yves Saint Laurent and his love affair with Jacques de Bascher. In this series, we follow the hidden face of this illustrious figure through the parties and the downfalls.
